New lenses for my D600

Dear Reader,

I have bought two new Nikkor lenses for my Nikon D600, A 24-70mm f2.8 and the 70-200mm f4.

I needed a wider zoom range, as I only had the 16-35 f4 right now for the D600. Therefore I was looking to get all the way to 200mm. there where several combinations around. Finally I bought these two. The reason why I have selected these two lenses where the following:

24-70mm f2.8:

  • Good quality lens
  • Large aperture, light sensitivity
  • not too heavy
  • not too expensive

70-200mm f4:

  • VR (image stabilizer)
  • not heavy, not more than 1kg
  • not too expensive

the weight was something I was very sensitive about, as I’m going hiking a lot. Many years ago I bought the D40x and the 18-200mm since it was a very powerful but light camera, after migrating to the D90 and now to the D600 full-size sensor, the lenses get larger and heavier… therefor I was keeping an eye on the weight. With the aperture of f4 I think this is no so much a problem, as the D600 is pretty good with the noise on higher ISO levels.

Last week we had some sunshine and the flowers in the garden started to bloom. This was the perfect moment to try out the new lenses:

I have to say, the DoF and sharpness are really cool 🙂

I already like the two lenses and I think they are a good match to the D600
