My current Intel based workstation was about to fail, as I head funny noises, and it produced a lot of heat in my little office. I had a dual-socket E5-2667v2 “server” under my desk, with a 1080TI. All of this was using a lot of energy, and producing a lot of heat.
As I had 32 cores, and 128GB of RAM, I did not want to go for something “smaller”. After doing a bit of research and and Googling, I ended up with the following:

As you can see from the specs, they look similar, but from a benchmark perspective t’s a different game. The new AMD CPU requires only 105W-TDP, and has about 2x the performance.
All went together quite nicely, and the system is pretty quiet during office usage. Sure when you start pushing all cores, you can hear the fans spinning up.
I was tempted to get a new GPU as well, but for now I can’t get my hands on one. I was looking at the Nvidia RTX 3090, but all are either sold out, or crazy expensive! So I’m still using my Nvidia 1080Ti, which is a pretty good GPU anyway, with the 11GB’s of RAM.
I have not really done much in terms of overclocking or other performance boosting, so let’s see how this will go. But this is for the next time.
