2015-09-07 Black Canyon

We drove from Moab towards Black Canyon. The drive from Moab to the highway was really nice. Along the Colorado river to Cisco. Since we work for Cisco we thought we would stop by and take from pictures of us in Cisco. Unfortunately, Cisco is no longer a village, it’s just a garbage site with a town sign L

Driving along towards the entrance of Black canyon nothing really exciting has happened. At the entrance to Black Canyon we stopped at a Coffee/Gift-shop. We bought a good map of Black Canyon and had a coffee and some ice cream.

As non of us has been to Black Canyon we followed the road and headed to the various lookouts to get a nice view over the canyon. Black Canyon is very different to the canyons we’ve seen before. Neither the canyon was red, nor in similar shape! It was more like the valleys you see in Switzerland, steep dark cliffs, with a stream at the bottom. The vertical walls where about 300ft deep with a flat top. The color of the walls was dark with some white stripes (cant’ remember why..well it’s different type of rock which has been pressed through the dark sediments). We played quite a bit with our Lee filters, as the sky was really bright and the walls where on the dark side… I hope you like the result.

We headed towards Salidas for the night which would be about 3h from Denver Airport.
