After a good sleep in Green River (it was labor day, and we did not book the hotel early enough in Moap..) we drove to the Arches National Park. We stopped at some famous places and took some pictures in daylight.. We also scouted for a few interesting locations for some night shots.
We checked out the map we got from the park, and saw an off road trail. As it hat a lot of people in the park we looked for a more quiet and interesting arch. So we headed to the Tower Arch. On the map it said you need a 4-weel drive with high clearance. As we had a Jeep Wrangler, we decided to go 🙂
The first stretch was like a highway, flat, wide with some gravel. Then we turned left and the road got narrower and the sand a bit higher, still nothing to worry!
At the end of the “first” road, a hill was in front of us, and there the fun begun. I was really impressed by the performance of the Jeep, low-gear-4-weel drive with normal tires. we crawled over the rocks and it shook us in the car from left to right. Never heard the car bumping into a rock or so. After 30min we crossed the hill and arrived at Tower Arch.
Tower Arch just a few minutes walk away is really beautiful, see yourself.
The way back to the main road, was pretty easy, a lot of sand and deep roads, but nothing which should have bothered us..
We decided to to walk to the Double-O-Arch after our off road session.. the sun was about to slowly set so we rushed all the way back to the arch. To my surprise the arch was in full sunshine.. And Dominik climbed on top of the arch which created some fun pictures. We had to head back quickly, as we wanted to see the Delicate Arch at sunset….
Sunset for Delicate Arche was almost over, it took us 30min to walk from the parking all the way to the arch. The sun had set and we pulled out our gear out of our back packs. We wandered around and took some pictures with our fancy filters. As it got darker we started to light the arch with our flashlights. Honestly the results are not so satisfying, but with some tweaking in Lightroom, the results are ok. Sadly the sky was covered with clouds, so our scouting earlier in the day did not pay out.
After walking back we headed to Moab for a nice Dinner 🙂
